To confront and defeat a pandemic like diabetes, it is necessary to know it, monitor it, and measure it. This is the aim of the Changing Diabetes® Barometer, which is much more than just a project; it is an actual tool to measure progress in the fight against diabetes.
This year, the Changing Diabetes® Barometer Forum – organized by Novo Nordisk, under the High Patronage of the President of the Republic, with the support of the Parliamentary Association for the Protection and Promotion of the Right to Prevention, Diabete Italia, the Italian Diabetes Barometer Observatory and the World Diabetes Foundation, and the endorsement of the Senate of the Republic, the Chamber of Deputies, the Prime Minister’s Bureau, the Ministry of Health, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of Labor and Social Policy, the Ministry for State-Region Relations, the Ministry of Youth Affairs, and the International Diabetes Federation – has reached its fourth edition, after the tremendous media interest it aroused the three previous years.
This is an opportunity for doctors, members of scientific societies, representatives of the institutions and the media to meet together and fight against diabetes, confronting it at a clinical, political, ethical and social level.
This Changing Diabetes® Barometer Forum was entitled “The Role of Institutions in the Prevention and Control of Non-Communicable Diseases: The Diabetes Paradigm” and was held on 12 April 2011 in the beautiful venue of the Temple of Hadrian. The definition of guidelines to improve the quality of life of people with diabetes and the identification of future strategies were the main topics of the Italian Forum in 2011, during which debate also focused on clinical risk and the prospects of technological innovation and new drugs.
